Bulletincast: April 2010

Submitted by mike on Tue, 04/27/2010 - 14:21

A Bulletincast for April. Talking about the NY meet-up, details now confirmed:

Time:Saturday, 01 May 2010 19:00

Also features a new recording of One Among the Sleepless Episode 1. The original was done on a Skype mic and I've been meaning to re-do it for ages. I've used the same microphone as I used on episodes 5-33 of the original podcast, so this new recording begins the process of unifying the overall sound - dynamic - thing.

Miss Wong, Someday We'll Meet Again. Number 3: 'Monster'

Submitted by mike on Fri, 03/05/2010 - 08:44

The third Miss Wong poetry podcast arrives straight out of the ... er ... bathroom. This one is called "Monster". It premiered on an episode of The Bonus Track about three years ago, but this is a new and much better recording. Click the image for a direct link to this tale of everyday horror, or alternatively wait for it to plop into your iTunes inbox (assuming you've subscribed to the feed - see the Miss Wong post below, or the subscription button on the right for the iTunes link).

Miss Wong, Someday We'll Meet Again

Submitted by mike on Tue, 03/02/2010 - 06:42

Hello there.

The poetry podcast I mentioned in Sometimes 11, 'Miss Wong, Someday We'll Meet Again' , has just started at Mevio.com. I started a new, independent feed for it, because my main feed is currently called 'Mike Bennett, Horror Author' and a bunch of poems about temping and charity shops etc, doesn't really fit that bill.

Anyway, the first two episodes are now live. I mentioned 'Charity Shop' on Sometimes 11, and for the last month it has been a Facebook Fanpage exclusive, but it's now there for all to hear. Also posted is the poem I included in Sometimes 11, 'Seeking the Unwanted'. There will be more to come in the future, including the one I'll be premiering on Sometimes 12 very soon.

Anyway, here's the link to the feed:

And the Mevio homepage: http://misswongsomeday.mevio.com/

I've submitted it to iTunes, but it'll be a few days before they process it. I'll update you on the situation as it develops.

Cheers for now

Pseudopod 181: The Spirit of Nationalism

Submitted by mike on Fri, 02/12/2010 - 02:58

I'm sure most of you have heard of the horror podcast, 'Pseudopod', right? Well, I recently read a story for them called, 'The Spirit of Nationalism' by Richard Marsden.

Ben Phillips, the editor, emailed me last night to let me know it's now live. So, if you haven't heard of Pseudopod, this is the perfect opportunity to check it out.

"Pseudopod is the world’s first audio horror magazine. Edited by Ben Phillips and hosted by Alasdair Stuart, each week Pseudopod delivers bone-chilling horror stories from today’s best authors, read by a team of talented narrators."

... And so now, I've joined that team of talented narrators. You can hear my contribution by clicking on the Pseudopod logo below. I hope you enjoy it.

What is a podcast?

A 'podcast' is a computer file, usually an MP3, that you can listen to live on the Web or download to your computer to listen to later - either on your computer or on an MP3 player.

My (Mike Bennett's) podcasts mostly consist of my original fiction which I have recorded and saved as MP3s (podcasts) for you to listen to at no cost. That's right, no cost: Mike Bennett podcasts are completely free to listen to or download.

To obtain the podcasts, you can use a software program like iTunes, which is free to download and easy to use. Once you have that, you can "subscribe" to the podcast (this doesn't mean you have to pay for anything, it just means you will get the podcasts you want as soon as they are released by the podcaster). To subscribe to my podcasts, go to the home page of this site and click on a podcast title on the top menu bar, and then click the 'subscribe' button on the podcast's page.

The titles available are:
One Among the Sleepless (complete novel: 34 MP3s)
Hall of Mirrors: Tales of Horror and The Grotesque (short story collection: 21 MP3s)
Mike Bennett Sometimes (a magazine show featuring my readings of classic fiction from Saki, Poe and others)
Underwood and Flinch (my current novel in-progress: 21 MP3s to-date).

Or you could just click this iTunes link: Mike Bennett Podcasts to connect to my main podcast feed* which contains all my podcasts to-date.

Feed* = You "subscribe" to the "feed" to get the podcasts. The "feed" is where all my podcasts are stored, and by subscribing to it, you can access them and download as many MP3s as you like.

You can learn more at these sites, the BBC one even has a video ... which is nice.
