The Premonitions (my old band)

Submitted by mike on Sat, 05/16/2009 - 07:23

This is my old band, The Premonitions, filmed at Windsor Arts Centre (England) in January 1989.  I had to film this off my TV screen because I lack proper video capture technology. The original soundtrack didn't make it, so I synced it to an old demo tape of ours. What's the song about? A ghost, naturally.

Underwood and Flinch - Episode 10

Submitted by mike on Wed, 05/13/2009 - 17:19

Episode 10: Lydia meets with the Black Circle and David meets with his worst nightmare.

This episode is part two Chapter 8, which is the biggest chapter so far and represents the climax to the first quarter of the book as a whole... Or is it the first eighth? I can't tell; it's organic, it's like trying to determine the ultimate size of a young Virginia Creeper.

Underwood and Flinch Episode 10 Progress Update.

Submitted by mike on Sun, 05/10/2009 - 13:18

Hello Listeners

I've finally finished writing Episode 10. Ahhh, perhaps you think that since it's already written in its first draft all I need to do is dust up the spelling and podcast it? Alas no, as Hemingway once said, "The first draft of everything is shit." It takes more than a quick spellcheck, my bloodthirsty chums. Episode 10 involved an almost complete re-write from top to bottom. I spent about three hours just writing and re-writing the final paragraph. But anyway, for better or worse, I'm finally saying enough is enough - that's a rap. Record the damn thing and move on. And so I shall, tomorrow.

Episode 10 is the second part of Chapter 8. I had originally hoped to get all the remainder of Chapter 8 into this episode, but I wasn't able to. So Chapter 8 will continue in Episode 11. "Oh if only it were a book!" you cry. "Then I could just read Chapter 8 at a sitting." But sadly, it isn't a book - not yet anyway. But with Print-on-Demand publishing, that may all change before the end of the year, eh? Smile

New Paul Warren Painting

Submitted by mike on Mon, 04/27/2009 - 17:29

MBP.com's very own artist, Paul Warren, has added another two paintings to the gallery. This time Paul has sought the true nature of David Flinch. Here's one painting, check out the gallery for the other. Many thanks Paul :-)

U&F 9: Progress

Submitted by mike on Mon, 04/27/2009 - 12:36

Blog entry.

So where's the episode Mike?

Well I've been busy flat hunting, listeners. And the good news is we've found a place (fingers crossed). Even better still, it has a really nice spare room, so I'll have my own place to work away from the fridge, the TV, and my long-suffering wife (Me: Can you mute the TV?  Can you turn the cooker off? Can you turn those pages more quietly? Can you, like, not breathe for a minute? etc). This means I'll be able to work whenever I like, as opposed to when my wife isn't around - both writing and podcasting. Woo-hoo! (I celebrate my increasingly reclusive behaviour... is this healthy?) Anyway, in other, more pertinent news, U&F 9 is now just over half way through the audio editing process. I hope to get it online by Friday evening at the latest. As always, thank you for your patience :-)

I'm Back, Baby...

Submitted by mike on Tue, 04/21/2009 - 09:07

... As George Costanza might say.

Anyway yes, I'm back from my hols. I took my PC with me to do some writing on while I was away but I managed to break it with an old Windows 95 version of Doom. While transferring files from the disc, the computer just shut down and wouldn't re-start. I took it in to a boffin and he dug out the disc. After that it started fine, it's almost like Doom was the cause on and on-going doom of the PC. But that's all in the past. Many people suggested I get a Mac. Thanks all, but I have one already; I use it for everything but writing and podcasting. Why? Because I can't get on with the writing programs and I find Garageband about as easy to master as chop sticks. Obviously both chop sticks - and Garageband can be fairly easily mastered because both are very popular. Maybe I should persevere with both. Anyway, to cut to the chase: I'm back, the PC is back, Underwood and Flinch resumes hopefully this weekend. Thank you for your patience. Here's a picture of me on recent Spanish jaunt with a cortado.

Yes, the word that strikes fear into the heart of all podcast novel listeners strikes for the first time in the Underwood and Flinch schedule

Sorry folks, I had a stupid hope that I might be able to get an episode out in 2 or 3 days, but it's impossible. Therefore this is the notification that U&F will be offline for about three weeks while I go on holiday. I'll be taking the laptop with me, so I'll be working on the novel while I'm away. As soon as I get back, I'll get straight back to work and get Episode 9 out as soon as possible.

In the meantime, why not listen to the previous episodes all over again from Night Crossing onwards? That way, when I get back, you'll be thoroughly boned-up on all things U&F and doubly ready for Episode 9 :-)

p.s. It also means that I won't be able to reply to posts for a while. So if you ask me a question and I don't reply it's because I'm not around to do so, but I will as soon as I get back.
